Anybody who uses the internet knows that what happened on January 18th changed history. http://www.sopastrike.com/numbers
Does this mean that the future of politics will be affected by the tides of the digital-social sea? Part of me hopes so, part of me wonders if this is necessarily a good thing. Don’t get me wrong, I think what happened to SOPA and PIPA was awesome. I was one of the millions of voices crying out (and fortunately not immediately silenced;). Was it that the cause itself was so compelling or that the voices that pushed the cause (ie. the internet giants) that made people respond?
Probably some combination of both. I hope it’s an even split with a slight leaning towards the cause itself. Then again, I’m feeling optimistic today. After all we won!
